Program Support

The Humanities Council of Washington, DC produces a number of programs that use the humanities disciplines to create a greater sense of community throughout the District. Though we welcome unrestricted gifts that benefit the Humanities Council as a whole, we also accept donations for specific programs.

Consider giving for Soul of the City, a week long program that encourages high school students to explore the history and culture found right in their own backyards. The annual event concludes with participants creating a final product that captures their experience within one or more of the humanities disciplines.

You may sponsor one of our community forums. Several times per year, we bring District residents together to discuss issues of great importance to the Community as part of our Who’s a Washingtonian? series.

The DC Community Heritage Project is an array of initiatives designed to help DC communities take control of their own past. The project includes an annual symposium that brings together scholars and community leaders to discuss heritage preservation goals and techniques. It features a grant series that offers awards of up to $2000 to community institutions that preserve, document and narrate local history and memory. It also features a growing resource center; a repository for DC heritage products generated by the project. Consider making a gift to the DC Community Heritage Project to help local preservationists continue researching their neighborhoods’ stories.

More information on all of these activities and more can be found on the programs section of our site.
