Grants Available for Good Stories & Ideas!

HumanitiesDC functions as a “quiet catalyst,” spearheading bold new ventures and then putting them in the hands of capable stewards – supporting small, community-based projects that capture the stories and ideas that make Washington, DC a unique and special city.

The DC Community Heritage Project Grant
In partnership with the Historic Preservation Office, the DC Community Heritage Project Grant Program will support projects that capture the heritage of Washington, DC and preserve our rich history with a focus on 1968.

Deadline: January 26, 2018 at 11:59pm
Amount: $2,500

The DC Oral History Collaborative Grant
In partnership with the DC Public Library and the Historical Society of Washington D.C., HumanitiesDC launched the DC Oral History Collaborative (DCOHC), collecting memories from our neighbors in a rapidly changing city. In its inaugural year, the DCOHC supported 10 unique projects.

Deadline: January 24, 2018 at 11:59pm
Amount: Up to $6,000

Applicants are encouraged to apply for the Oral History Collaborative Grant and any other opportunity that matches their project’s focus.

The Open Humanities Grant Program
Our Open Humanities Grant Program supports projects that bring the humanities disciplines to the people of Washington, DC. Formally, these include: modern languages, classical languages, linguistics, literature, history, jurisprudence, philosophy, archaeology, comparative religion, ethics, and history, criticism, and theory of the arts.  However, we encourage Washingtonians to explore and interpret their city as creatively as possible through this opportunity.

Deadline: March 2, 2018 at 11:59pm
Amount: $8,000 – $10,000
