This article uses archival research and testimony from neighborhood residents to describe the history of Fairfax Village in Washington, DC. The document provides a historical narrative beginning with the neighborhood's construction in 1938, its growth, a surge in crime during the 1980s and 90s, and the community's response. The article closes with a brief description of the neighborhood's recent history and attempts to "negotiat[e] its changing social, economic, and cultural landscape."
