Matthews Memorial Baptist Church Dean of Christian Education Nellie Marshall Covington, and some of her favorite books
The late Nellie M. Covington was the daughter of Founding Pastor and First Lady Marshall of the Matthews Memorial Baptist Church. Active in the church through the years, Sister Nellie later served for more than 20 years as the Dean of Christian Education. Shown here is a framed portrait of her surrounded by some of her favorite books. Clockwise from her portrait: a personalized metal embosser that imprinted her name and initials onto her books; Herbert Lockyer’s book, All the Women of the Bible; her father’s 1913 signed copy of the book, An Outline of Christian Theology, by William Newton Clarke; an open page of the Postal Commemorative Society First-Day Covers and Special Covers, and a Reader’s Digest publication, Success with House Plants. Donated by W J Covington and Pastor Joan E. Buchanan
