Description
The Hillcrest Community Civic Association initiated this oral history project to answer the question, "What makes a strong DC community?" Narrators were asked if Hillcrest exhibits the characteristics of a strong community and what they believe the role of the HCCA should be.
In her video interview, Doris A.M. Thomas discusses her own contributions to the community as the founder of the Serenity Players Theatre Group. She characterizes Hillcrest as a strong community with a group of dedicated core leaders, but also states that neighborhood organizations need new members and new ideas; resources the HCCA has been largely unable to attract.
