Live to Read
    DC's City-Wide Celebration of Literature™

Presented by the Humanities Council of Washington, DC

The Humanities Council of Washington, DC is excited to announce its new program, Live to Read: DC's City-Wide Celebration of Literature which will debut in spring 2011.

The Humanities Council is proud to have been a part of the National Endowment for the Arts' Big Read for the past four years. Unfortunately, funding for the 2011 Big Read has been cut and no organizations in the District received a grant to continue the program next year.

Receiving this news inspired The Humanities Council to start its own city-wide read, Live to Read. For our first ever Live to Read, we have selected the play “Ruined” by Lynn Nottage which won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and will make its DC debut next April at Arena Stage’s new Mead Center.

We are thrilled to be able to continue the tradition of enriching lives through the power of reading and sharing a book with the community. We hope you will join us in our new endeavor, read the book and see it performed live at Arena Stage!
